Visual identity as a bridge - designed by Studio Melli

Translating values into form

YAR Studio’s visual identity was never meant to decorate our story: it was meant to carry it. Conceived by Studio Melli, the visual identity of YAR Studio functions as a framework: it is precise yet open, minimal yet rich - designed to hold stories rather than overshadow them.

Echoing YAR Studio’s cultural position, Studio Melli developed an identity that holds dualities: contemporary and traditional, structured and intuitive, restrained yet expressive. The result is not a loud brand, but a confident one: one that knows when to speak and when to step back.

From object to maker
Much like our approach to carpets, the visual identity resists fixation on the final product alone. Instead, it creates space for process, texture, and detail. Typography breathes. Layouts allow pause. Imagery draws the eye closer - inviting attention to surfaces, irregularities, and the marks of the hand.

This mirrors our belief that the beauty lies in the details, and that details deserve to be seen. The identity functions as a frame, not a filter - amplifying the stories of Iranian designers and weavers rather than overshadowing them.

A system built on respect
Studio Melli approached the identity as a system, not a style - much like we approach our studio as a platform rather than a pedestal. The visual language is adaptable, yet consistent. It allows for regional diversity within Iran to exist without being flattened into a single aesthetic. Differences are not smoothed out; they are held with care.

This flexibility reflects how YAR Studio works across regions, cultures, and relationships. One identity, many voices.

Silence as strength

In a world driven by speed and spectacle, the YAR Studio identity embraces restraint. White space functions like a pause in conversation. Typography is precise, but not dominant. Color is used sparingly, with intention.

This visual quietness is deliberate. It mirrors the slowness of craft, the patience of weaving, and the long-term relationships we seek to build. The identity does not compete for attention - it earns it.

Between Amsterdam, Tehran, and the regions
Designed and produced in Iran, informed by the Netherlands, the visual identity sits naturally between geographies. It reflects the urban clarity of Amsterdam and The Hague, while leaving room for the richness, tactility, and cultural depth of Iranian craft.

Just as our partner in Iran, Sara Masayekh, travels between regions to build human connections, the identity travels between contexts - editorial, exhibition, digital - without losing its integrity.
